Fold & Flip Phones

Back in May, the screen would sometimes get colored lines and go green or pink before going completely black.  And when I opened my phone, sometimes the screen wouldn't come on at all unless I slightly banged it, or force-restarted my phone.

Recently, if I closed my screen, even just a little bit, the screen would go completely black and wouldn't turn on at all.  It came back on eventually, but I learned to just not bend my phone at all and it would work fine.

This past Sunday, the screen went completely black and won't turn on at all.  The phone still functions, but the screen doesn't.  I've tried force-resetting, everything, and nothing.  When I gently shake the phone, I can hear a quiet rattle, so I think something came loose.  I tried the magnet trick, to see if maybe one of the magnets in the back came loose, but it doesn't work.  The front screen works fine, but not the inner screen.  I took it to Ubreakifix to get it repaired, and they want $430 to replace the screen.  I don't have that kind of money.  And I don't know if I have insurance.  The phone is way past the warranty period.

Is there a cheaper alternative, or something I can tell them to reduce the price drastically?

Since you mentioned this started with green and pink lines on the screen that would be caused by the display cable being damaged inside of the phone it appears the cable finally gave out and the display isnā€™t working now.  The only solution is to contact support and have the phone checked at a certified Samsung repair center to be fixed.

and since you took it already to ubreakifix and they already deemed it a display issue you would have to pay the amount they quoted you for the repair.  You might be able to contact your carrier to see if you are paying for insurance on your device monthly

They won't change the price if it is the display cable?  Like go from $400 down to $50 or whatever?  They didn't quote me exactly, they just told me how much it would be.  But I'll ask them.

I would dig deeper to see if you have insurance. If not, I would recommend saving to bite the bullet and make sure it's an OEM screen. If it was not the folding screen I would say a 3rd party would probably be okay, but considering that folding screens are still a fairly new technology, going with an alternative to OEM if they even exist, I don't think you would get even close to the same life as OEM.

Sucks and I understand it's a steep price, but if planning on keeping the phone for quite a while longer I would say it's the best option.
