Fold & Flip PhonesA few cars ran over my Flip-5 so both my cover and main screens are not working. I could make calls in my car after the incident so Bluetooth was still working .
Went to Samsung repair store and they told me that itโs likely that the motherboard is still good and they can replace both screens for me for about $580 CAD. After the repair, the phone will look brand new.
I am looking for way to retrieve data from the phone. A phone repair store suggested if I can get another Flip-5, they can switch the motherboard to get the data like using Smart Switch. After getting the data, they will put the motherboard back to the 2nd Flip-5.
Does this work? Can you think of any complications?

Fold & Flip PhonesEven connecting via USB will require some setting changes.., I haven't transfered files via PC, just thru USB phone-to-phone, you cannot reach everything, for example S.Switch didn't transfer my passwords from Samsung's browser..
Flips don't do DEX iirc, so that also may be a dead end.., just thinking.

Fold & Flip PhonesWithout intervention of my Flip-5, I donโt think it would not work to transfer data to my PC. Otherwise, this would be a huge security breach.
How about the idea of switching the motherboard? With my motherboard in a working Flip-5, I can unlock and give permissions for the data transfer.
I asked Samsung repair center about this idea. They said not to do this because the IMEI of the motherboard has to match the IMEI of the screen. The procedure may damage the 2nd Flip-5. This idea of matching IMEI (motherboard and screen) does not make sense. What do you think?

Fold & Flip PhonesI plugged in my Flip-5 to my laptop via an USB-C cable. The Flip-5 would vibrate and makes a sound and I can see the message in the main screen โTo use USB device, unlock your phoneโ. Problem is I cannot unlock my phone. I then opened Smart Switch on my PC, Smart Switch would say โConnect your device to get startedโ. I cannot continue without the phone inputs.
Now that the Flip-5 is unuseable, I am now using a Flip-3. I plugged in the C cable and I could import the photos of this phone to the PC. I then launched Smart Switch on my PC, I had to click Connect in the Flip-3 to continue.

Fold & Flip PhonesAll fixed. Samsung repair store replaced both screens and the screen is now practically new. They also had to replace the camera which made sense because my phone was run over by car(s).
Samsung announced today the trade-in values to the Flip-7. The trade-in values of Flip-3 and Flip-5 are $730 and $645 respectively. There is also an additional $100 for pre-unpacking bonus. So, for only $85 difference, to trade in the Flip-3 is probably a good idea.
