Status Bar icons still hidden

Quick panel pulled down

In One UI 8, Samsung hid status bar icons like Bluetooth, NFC, Alarm, etc from the status bar. In order to see them you have to pull down the Quick panel. Samsung said they did this to "reduce" clutter on the status bar.

I absolutely HATE that someone at Samsung decided for all Samsung users that useful status bar icons are "clutter." Now, when I look at my phone's STATUS bar, I can't actually see information about its STATUS, because all the icons have been hidden.

When I'm connecting my Bluetooth headphones, I need to know if my Bluetooth is on. That information is not "clutter." The whole point is for you to see the information with a single glance. Now, you have to take an additional action (swipe down) in order to see this information.

At the very least, this should have been made optional, so that people who don't want to see status bar icons on their status bar (for some reason??) can turn them off, but allow the rest of us to use the status bar for its actually purpose: showing the STATUS of the phone.

It seems that in One UI 8.5, the same design mentality is being maintained and it frustrates me to no end. This is a further step towards being more like Apple, where the manufacturer makes decisions for the users.

This is at most something temporary. At the very most you'll have to wait for the good lock modules to catch up to 8.5 however with a bit of fiddling I've enabled the icons you claim are missing quite easily through ADB meaning Samsung never removed them only hid them. Good luck has always given the ability to bring those back so there should be no reason why Samsung doesn't do it again for 8.5. what I'm trying to say is you'll just have to wait for the good lock module to come out at the very most. If you're well-versed with ADB I could help you do it now but I prefer not to encourage ADB to users that don't know it like the back of their hands. You could get yourself in a lot of trouble with it as far as messing your phone up if you don't know what you're doing.

Good lock (Quickstar) did not have the ability to undo the hidden status bar icons in One UI 7 or 8. I am 110% sure of that. You can toggle the hide/unhide option in Quickstar, but it does nothing.

Can you share how you enabled them using ADB?

I've used the "email the CEO" link several times, once when OneUI 7 came out and I noticed the loss of functionality, once a few months after when nothing came out in GoodLock, and then once again when OneUI 8 came out and none of these issues were addressed. I seriously doubt you are taking any of our suggestions. I actually would like to know the thought process behind these changes. Is there any way we can get a formal interview/reply with the UX/UI designers to get a reason why this was changed in the first place?

This has been like this for a bit now.. One UI 8is like that and I like it. In fact, I use modules to move these around to REDUCE clutter and turn some of them off.. Like NFC, I don't need to know wether or not is on, because is something deep in settings anyways. But also, it's done because the status bar gets pushed down when you lower the notification panels.. Otherwise, the camera punch hole would be on the way.. Surprised you didn't see this before.. I want to say is been on since One UI7 or before.. One of the few things that Samsung has done that I like.

For me, knowing that my Bluetooth is on, or that my phone is connected to my Bluetooth headphones before answering a call is not "clutter," it's useful information. This is how Samsung phones have worked until One UI 7, when Samsung decided that information that has been useful for over 15 years is now "clutter" and must be removed.

The true Android way of implementing this is making it an option, to allow you to toggle some status bar icons off/on if that's what you want. But since Samsung is embracing the Apple way of taking away customization. It's great for you because you don't want to see the status of your phone on your status bar, but some of us still want that feature.

Also @Focr06 there is enough space on the status bar to show about 10 status bar icons without touching the hole punch. Literally just look at your status bar with your own eyes and measure the amount of space that's there. You could have ALL the possible status bar icons enabled: Battery, Cellular info x3, Wifi, Vibrate, Alarm, NFC, Bluetooth, etc and it won't fill up the space to the right of the hole punch. What are you even talking about?

I'm with @FriendlyBane on this one, I want my icons back, I hate having to swipe around to find out if my bluetooth is connected or if my alarm is set. I've had this issue since One UI 7, and was extremely disappointed to see that One UI 8 isn't getting any type of "restorative" functionality for these symbols.

@ricketypumpkin if you're talking about the `adb shell settings` stuff it doesn't work, literally just tried it, so I'm skeptical we're talking about the same thing. If you would be kind enough to at least point us in a direction that shows what you're talking about, that would be great. I get that Good Lock may bring this back, but that's what I was hoping for with this update, and looks like I'm outta luck.

For additional reference, I've tried to delete the `icon_blacklist`, set `simple_status_bar 0`, and nothing else seems to really be toward allowing the icons on the status bar.
