DiscussionsI prefer it solely because I hate Google Messages' design (lack of proper dark mode, looking out-of-place) and icon. Pretty much comes down to aesthetics for me.

DiscussionsThe icons are not very different and the colors other than being inverted, are the same. But I do get aesthetics as users should be able to change to the theme and color schemes of their liking. That does not matter to me as much as reading accessibility where contrasting colors make it easier and I like dark themes for that reasons.

DiscussionsGoogle Messages is also secure and Knox is a system wide coverage for messaging, not just for Samsung Messages as long as the chat app are on Samsung devices. Also, while Samsung Messages offers end to end encryption IF the carriers provide it, whereas Google Messages has it regardless of the carriers thanks to Jibe, as long as both users are using RCS. In the end, it not about messaging app wars and brand names, rather what works best and for the user's best interests.

DiscussionsIn Google Messages the chats are on the bottom half of the screen when you open the app.
