I am experiencing some weird wifi latency behavior recently and the only thing I can think of is a recent one ui beta update.

When I do a steady ping to my Wi-Fi access point on the same network, it seems to go from a steady 5-15ms to 50-150ms every 10 seconds or so and then it repeats the cycle. I noticed this when trying to use steam remote play and the network statics graph shows a much better example of this.

When using my laptop or desktop that are right next to each other and performing the same ping test, they are 5-15ms constant. When trying to ping my phone from those devices, it shows the same story with the same latency fluctuations.

Not sure if anyone else is experiencing this issue or if it's something else.

Hello,

Thank you for your feedback on WiFi latency test.

Please don't hesitate to submit an error report to help us evaluate the "instable" latency.

Regards,

I have submitted an error report for this as well. Something interesting I just noticed is that if I enabled the option of "Capture Airlog" within intelligent wifi settings, it significantly reduces the latency and almost brings it back to normal completely. There are still some spikes, but it doesn't last nearly as long as would be expected.

I assume this option is for a packet capture debug of some sort, so I am guessing it's not feasible to leave it on all of the time.

I was able to do some more digging and found where that "Air Log" capture is being saved to and how to get it copied to storage that I can access. After accessing the PCAP, there are a bunch of errors of malformed packets with the error of "Tag Length is longer than remaining payload".

I found a similar error relating to a Cisco access point AP firmware. Being that this is the only device on my network experiencing this issue, it is very likely there is something in the beta firmware causing this as well.

I think I am able to confirm that it might be something in the firmware for this update. I performed the same wifi capture on my computer and capture the same 802.11 management traffic that my S24 Ultra was capturing. My computer doesn't report anything wrong with the management broadcasts and it's pings are completely normal. Only my S24 thinks there is a problem with the management frames which makes me think it is some sort of driver or firmware issue with this latest beta update and it causing an increase in errors during processing which may be causing the increased latency.

After updating to beta 5 and receiving the March security update, I am no longer experiencing this issue.

I did a another packet capture and while the latency issues appears to be fixed, there are still a bunch of management frames showing as malformed when the packet capture is ran from my phone. However they show as normal when the packet capture is ran from my computer.
