Google Photos Crashing Phone

I wanted to clean up my google photos and delete old pictures. When locking my phone with the app open, it completely shutsdown my phone. I have to turn it back on. This has happened twice in one day already. Has this happened to someone else? Or something similar?

Have you cleared cache of the photos app?

Not an issue here.
Try clearing the cache as mentioned or clearing data and reset up your preferences/settings
