According to a post by @Mujibar, Ads and pop-ups are generally due to a third-party app that you installed or malware you picked up from a website. Download Fine Lock from the Play Store and install the Nice Catch module. Toggle "toast history" and "detect commercials" to find out which app is the culprit. You can then uninstall that app.
