I'm having trouble with my new phone. The phone pad works correctly when dialing out but once connected, the DTMF tones are flat and I cannot communicate with other systems or even get into my voice mail.  It's as if the system I have dialed cannot hear the tones after connection.  I do not find ANY reference to DTMF tones in the system settings nor the phone app.

Thanks for any help,

Tim

OK, finally!!! Success!!! Re-installing Google dialer resolved the situation and DTMF tones are restored.  I will continue to use Google Dialer and maybe sometime in the future do a reset to see if that fixes Samsung's dialer.

I am still very curious as to why I cannot (still) find the setting for DTMF tones.

Are you for sure using the keypad within the call? Or by chance did you click the home button and then click the phone? Make sure you are in the actual call where you can see the timer ticking and then click keypad there....if you go to the dialer/phone icon at the bottom instead of IN the call, it doesn't work.

OMG, that might be it. Some people do not realize the keypad disappears once the call connects and they have to tap the icon. It is not intuitive, especially if the screen times out after the call connects.

I consider myself a super tech savvy power user and I've done it.

I didn't even think to include that in my essay (comment), since I don't believe I have ever mistakenly used the dialer keypad, so it never occurred to me that someone might.  But, if the in-call keypad is hidden, that's an extremely ambiguous icon, although, just as it says "hide" when expanded, it does say "keypad" when hidden.

I had to double check that so I called voice mail.  The keypad stays up in the call however the tones are all the same no matter what number I "press".

If you're doing that step correctly (I've been guilty of using the dialer rather than the keypad IN the call that's connected).... there is one more setting I can recommend....while not connected to a call, click the phone icon. From the keypad click the three dots at the top right, then click "Setting">"Other Call Settings" and try changing the DTMF tones to "long".

I have done this, however there is no reference to DTMF tones.  I have opened every heading and subheading but I find no references to DTMF I even tried searching DTMF within settings to no avail.

Which phone?  You can try switching the dialer app and seeing if another phone dialer works properly.  You are not required to use the Samsung dialer.  I recommend downloading Phone by Google from the Play store and testing that.  If it works properly, then it's not your phone, it's the dialer app.  Since it cannot be uninstalled, you can either just keep using the new dialer or factory reset your phone, clear the cache and data from the Samsung phone dialer or factory reset your phone and restore your backup.  Since the dialer is baked into the OS, you will get a new copy of the dialer upon reset.  If you have visual voicemail, you should not need the DTMF tones to get your voicemail.  If you don't have the native Samsung vvm app, your carrier may have an app, but I think Phone by Google does have it built in.

If the replacement dialer does not work properly, it still might not be your phone, it may be a carrier issue and you should reach out to them first.  If they say, "not our problem, contact Samsung", put in an error report. https://us.community.samsung.com/t5/Tips-Tricks/How-to-Send-Feedback/ba-p/3001692

It is very odd that the tones work for dialing, but not for interaction.

Realaud, I had Google dialer and had the same issue so I went back to Samsung's dialer as default to try to resolve the situation.  I removed Google dialer at that time so I will re-install it and report back.

Visual Voicemail came with the phone however you need to set it up initially which requires the app connecting to your VM then you have to enter your pin ... which is where my problem is.
