So, I just updated my A54 to Android 16/OneUI 8.0 without trauma or drama.  Everything works and the look of my phone has not changed.  My wallpaper, icons, and color scheme were not altered (well, except for my quick panel colors, which I simply changed back to my custom one set in QuickStar). No icons were switched (custom icon pack), or folders deleted.  If I didn't know I had an update, I would never notice the difference.  Didn't fix the one minor issue I was hoping it would, though, so now I will probably have to take steps on that.

It is important, after an update, to wipe the cache partition.

You must have posted that while I was writing and proofreading (to keep my edits at a minimum).

No worries. It doesn't hurt to reiterate a solution.

Google messages is not a "stone age" messaging app.  I'm sorry you think that. In any case, if it's not working properly, either uninstall and reinstall it (it will not affect your existing chats), or simply clear the app's cache and data - which does essentially the same thing without the actual uninstall.)  You will have to go through all your app settings again.  Have you followed the recommended best practices after an update and cleared the phone's cache partition?
