I'd recomend to wait for the A17 if you are looking into the A1X series (it may be 3 months away) or the A36 5g for affordable and better performance.

First of all, it depends on how you are going to use it. Second, you can check online reviews.

There's always the saying..you get 'what you pay for' A Series I would stay away from. But is a cheap option if you don't want performance or speed..they lag or freeze up alot.

That's a blanket statement that is not true. Most lags and freezes happen on the lowest end A series mostly due to user behavior. They try to jam too much simultaneous activity or don't buy a model with adequate hard drive space and load it up wirh every app known to man or thousands of photos. One needs to keep a certain percent of space free for apps to wok, updates and backups go happen

I have an A 54 the ram is plenty. I have no lags or freezes. It's strictly user behavior when they have the lowest of the low end. They buy without reading the specs and then download everything even if they have no space for it. Even a phone with low ram compensates by using the hdd as a swap space.

The Galaxy A16 5G is a solid choice if you're looking for a basic, reliable phone with 5G support at an affordable price point. It's great for light to moderate use — calls, messaging, browsing, and streaming. That said, like some have pointed out, performance depends on what you're expecting to do with it.

If you're someone who runs multiple apps at once or keeps a lot of media stored, you might run into limits with RAM or internal storage on the lower-end A series phones. But if you're aware of that going in and manage your apps and storage, it can still run smoothly.

Waiting a bit for the A17 or looking at something like the A36 5G is also a fair recommendation — they’ll have updated specs and longer software support. But if your needs are basic and you’re budget-conscious, the A16 5G can still be a good value.

Always check what you're getting in terms of RAM, storage, and expected updates, and match it to your actual needs — that's the real key with budget models. Good question to bring to the forum!
